Players interested in participating in Louisiana Elite MLS NEXT are invited to attend our two-day tryouts.

The tryouts are designed to provide a comprehensive evaluation of each player, allowing our Louisiana Elite coaching staff to evaluate athletes based on ability and long-term development potential. In addition to the session itself, team depth charts and ongoing player evaluations throughout the year will also play a role in final placement decisions.

Players must register and attend the first tryout under the new School Calendar Year format (Aug 1 – July 31). Players then have the option to register and attend the second session in the previous Birth Calendar Year format.

Check in will take place at the pavilion nearest to the fields listed at Our Lady of the Lake Fields at Burbank Soccer Park in Baton Rouge.

How the Player Placement Process Works

Upon registration, each player will be assigned a number for evaluation purposes. Throughout the session, players will move through a structured training progression while being assessed by our coaching staff.

Evaluations are based on the five key components of player development:

  • Technical Ability – Overall skill proficiency
  • Technical Speed – Ability to execute skills at game speed
  • Tactical Application – Understanding of space, movement, decision-making, and combination play
  • Physical Attributes – Speed, strength, and ability to compete on the ball
  • Psychological Dimensions – Competitiveness, work ethic, coachability, and interaction with teammates

Each player is evaluated by Louisiana Elite coaches and assigned a rating (1–6), which corresponds to team groupings and small-sided game fields. Final team placement is determined using a combination of these ratings and detailed coach feedback.

What Happens Next

Following the tryouts, families will receive an email with their player’s placement. At that time, you will be asked to accept or decline the assignment.

Please note:
Placement is not finalized until registration and team fees have been completed.
